Keeping It Independent

I know just about everyone that is rapping, is looking for a deal. The thing is most people don’t know is that a major record label is nothing but a bank loaning you money. They advance you a certain amount of money for your project and take back pennies to repay your loan while keeping the majority for their selves. Now why would you do that when the big labels keep complaining about losing money?

With the Internet now you can reach a many people as the label but also keep total control. Not only can you sell your music but you can also sell your merchandise and keep all of the money.

The key to being independent and selling your own product is promotions. Promotions is what the major labels have that us independent artist don’t. They have the outlets to get their artist on TV and on radio to get much more exposure. If you are patience and keep gaining one fan at a time you could be a successful artist too.

Never let someone control what you create.

Welcome

Hello and welcome to bayareahip-hop. We are here to provide you with information and music from the San Francisco Bay Area. Unfortunately The Bay does not get the national recognition that other regions around the country gets even though you see or hear our influences daily. Playa hater, fo shizzle, off the hook, and playboy are all terms that came from Bay Area hip-hop.

The only movement that has been seen in the industry in the past few years was the hyphy movement and that came and went like a flash in the pan. But hyphy is only one sub-genre of Bay Area hip-hop. With other sub-genres like backpack, mob, party, and conscious the Bay offers different types of hip-hop to satisfy any ones needs.

With being disregarded by the industry, artist in the Bay have always went the independent route. Along the way, these artist seen that they can sell anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000 units and make more money and control their masters while their counterparts on major labels never see a royalty check. Here at bayareahip-hop we will provide techniques and tips on how to be a successful independent artist. We will go to the source and have the artist tell you exactly what they did to become a success.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope to see you again real soon.
